Mecalac, based in Coventry, UK, manufactures Backhoe Loaders, Road Rollers, and Site Dumpers. In response to the UK Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) initiative to improve workplace safety, site dumpers are now required to have enclosed cabins instead of simple roll bars. As a result, many site dumper manufacturers have developed cabbed models for their fleets. Mecalac successfully presented their 9MDX model at the Intermat Construction show in Paris in April 2018.

To further enhance safety, Mecalac selected the UnitedSeats MGV55 seat for their 6MDX and 9MDX cabbed dumpers.

Why the MGV55?

The specially designed MGV55 seat offers several key safety features:
✅ Hi-Vis orange seat belt with a switch connected to a green beacon on the cabin roof. This green light ensures site supervisors can easily confirm that the operator is securely buckled up.
✅ An operator presence switch is integrated into the seat cushion, ensuring that the machine cannot move unless the driver is seated.

In addition, the MGV55 seat was upgraded to meet the EM1 construction vehicle standard, ensuring compliance for larger site dumpers — going beyond the EM7 standard, which applies to smaller dumpers.

Additional Improvements

🔹 The MGV55's weight range has been increased to 50-155 kg to accommodate heavier operators.
🔹 To simplify installation, Mecalac engineers requested a plug-and-play solution with a dedicated wiring harness that integrates both the seat belt switch and the operator presence switch into a single system.
