Overview

Vipow 4 V / 4.9 Ah Gel Battery

Gel batteries have become an alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries. Unlike the latter, gel models are maintenance-free. This means they do not require electrolyte refills. Their key advantages are their sealed casing and gel-form electrolyte. This ensures that the electrolyte will not leak, allowing the battery to be stored in any position and making it more resistant to shocks.

Lifespan of a Gel Battery

One of the greatest advantages of gel batteries is their service life. Among the types available on the market, this type has the longest lifespan; when used properly, it can last for over a dozen years. Importantly, gel batteries are also more resistant to changing and extreme weather conditions.

Self-discharge (25°C)

Gel batteries can be stored for up to several months without needing to be recharged. Their capacity decreases to:

Selecting a Gel Battery

The right dimensions aren’t everything. When choosing a battery, you need to pay attention to its capacity—it should not be more than 110% or less than 90% of the capacity recommended for the device you plan to power. The output voltage is also important; its value must be very close to the recommended value (+/-0.2 V).

Applications of gel batteries

Gel batteries are used, among other things, in motorcycles, golf carts, and lawn mowers. They are also used in emergency power supplies, photovoltaic systems, alarm systems, and electric toys. Furthermore, these batteries can be found in vehicles with a large number of electrical devices, such as RVs. In such cases, they are not used to start the vehicle but to power electronic equipment.

Gel Battery Charger

For a charger to function properly and avoid damaging the battery, it must have the correct current and voltage settings. These values will vary at different stages of charging, so it’s worth choosing an automatic charger that not only adjusts the appropriate charging current and voltage but also shuts off when the battery is fully charged.
